WINGS Credit: Short and Soft Fields

Remember the good old days, before a hurricane and floods brought our beloved Western North Carolina to its knees? Back then, we were going to have a WINGS credit meeting uninterrupted by rising waters and high winds.

It is time to return to business as usual! On Tuesday, January 21st, at our next general meeting, Mike Cavanaugh will dust off the program that he shelved back in September. He will discuss Short Field and Soft Field Operations, and also bring us up to date on the soon-to-be-released Asheville 8 Departure. The presentation, sponsored by the FAA Safety Team (FAAS Team) is for WINGS credit (Basic Knowledge 3 – 1 Credit). This presentation will review the recommended procedures as found in the Airplane Flying Handbook for operating in/out of ‘short fields’ and ‘soft fields’ in GA Aircraft. Special considerations for operating in the Western areas of NC will also be discussed. The presentation will include a period for questions and audience discussion.

Mike’s presentation will follow the meal at 6:15 in the Lacy Griffin aviation center. If no parking space is available in front of the building, use the spaces in the adjacent maintenance yard (gate 24), in the viewing area down the road, or in the small lot catty-cornered to the Lacy Griffin center.
