Sweat Reduction Engineering

There is an old aviation joke: the function of the fan at the front of your airplane is to keep you cool in the air. Don’t believe it? Then why do you start sweating the moment it stops!

On Tuesday, May 19th, Bill Pendergrass will give us information that may help to keep us all dry. As a followup to his previous presentation, he will talk about propellers, starters, mixture, valves, fuel injection, lean of peak, magnetos, and more. The more we understand how airplanes work, the more likely we are to maintain them properly.

As mentioned before, Bill is an engineer by profession and an EAA member by avocation, so he knows all about this stuff! I personally found his last presentation completely fascinating, as well as informative.

Dinner will be served at 6:15 in the Lacy Griffin aviation center, with the presentation to follow. If no parking space is available in front of the building, we have free use of Lot B just north of our meeting place, in the viewing area down the road, or in the small lot catty-cornered to the Lacy Griffin center.

Coming attractions: In June, Clayton Pykiet will present on shared ownership of an airplane, and has arranged to let us tour two new Diamond aircraft (a single and a twin) after the meeting. In July, we will have our annual barbecue dinner and hear about the recipients of this year’s Educational Foundation grants. In July, On Friday, August 14th we are arranging for a group outing to an Asheville Tourist baseball game. In September, the WINGS-credit presentation will be on pilot allowed maintenance. And, though it isn’t our event, don’t miss the opportunity to tour a G7 Cirrus Vision Jet on the field on May 28th.
