An old joke in aviation, one likely to elicit groans instead of laughter, goes like this: The pilot of a helicopter, rescued after a crash, was asked for the cause of the crash. “I have no idea,” he says. “I started to get chilly, so I turned off the ceiling fan, and the next thing I knew….”
Our speaker in August, Andrew Bajaw, has never made this mistake! He pilots the R-44 helicopter used by Scenic Helicopters, based here at AVL. He will speak with us about helicopters in general and their tourist operation in particular. Should be informative and enjoyable!
The fun begins Tuesday, August 19th with a meal at 6:15 in the Lacy Griffin aviation center. The suggested donation for the Subway Sandwich meal is $5.00–a pretty sweet bargain in these days when it is difficult to find a burger and fries for less than $10.00! If no parking space is available in front of the building, we have free use of Lot B just north of our meeting place, in the viewing area down the road, or in the small lot catty-cornered to the Lacy Griffin center.
Also: come say hello to us at our booth at the WNC Air Museum adjacent to Hendersonville airport (0A7) on Saturday, August 30th from 11:00 to 4:00. This is the museum’s big event of the year, and includes a car show and helicopter rides by Scenic Helicopters. Support our local museum! A good time is guaranteed for all!
