Warp Speed ATC

On Tuesday, August 20th, at our next general meeting, Ricky Brown will discuss his recent experiences in a program entitled Behind the Scenes of Sun ‘N Fun ATC: A Rookie Perspective. As the title implies, Ricky has been an air traffic controller and support specialist at AVL for many years, but only recently was thrown into the deep water of the Sun ‘N Fun fly-in. He also has an interest in autonomous drones, and is an instrument rated pilot.

Ricky’s presentation will follow the Subway meal at 6:15 in the Lacy Griffin aviation center. If no parking space is available in front of the building, use the spaces in the adjacent maintenance yard (gate 24), in the viewing area down the road, or in the small lot catty-cornered to the Lacy Griffin center.

Our monthly Fly-In Lunch on Saturday, August 24th will be to Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) which is 36 NM South-Southeast of AVL. Plan your flight to arrive at noon at the Runway Cafe restaurant on the field there. Please, let’s all collectively cross our fingers for good weather–we have had nothing but rain and low ceilings for our fly-in lunches in recent months! As always, the pilot in command has the final go/no go decision about the safety of the flight.
