Ring the Belle

The Memphis Belle was a B-17F Flying Fortress bomber that was the first U.S. heavy bomber to complete 25 combat missions and return to the United States after its 1943 tour. After the war, the plane toured the country for a war bond drive. Asheville was graced by a visit from this historic aircraft!

On Tuesday, November 18th, Mike Cavanaugh will treat us to a presentation about this aircraft and its visit here. As always, dinner will be served at 6:15 in the Lacy Griffin aviation center. The suggested donation for the pizza meal is $5.00–what a bargain! Mike’s presentation will begin at about 7:00.

If no parking space is available in front of the building, we have free use of Lot B just north of our meeting place, in the viewing area down the road, or in the small lot catty-cornered to the Lacy Griffin center.

Hold the Date: Our annual holiday party will take place at Bay Breeze seafood restaurant on December 9th, with a happy hour starting at 5:00 and dinner starting at 6:00, with guests invited to order off the menu. Our speaker will be Andy Haynes, who will discuss the road to securing an ATP certificate and a career flying one of the heavies.

Finally, we are seeking candidates for various board positions within WNCPA–there are several openings! Please consider giving back to the organization that has supported you and general aviation for many decades. As an added bonus, you will be treated to fellowship and some serious “hangar flying” at each of our board meetings! Chat with Dave Bolser at the meeting to get more details on available positions, call or text him at 856-885-3920, or email him at ddbolser@gmail.com.
