Lots of Announcements!

First, the MAY 17th program will feature representatives from Compass Aviation. Compass Aviation exists to provide future missionary pilot/mechanics with aviation experience in a facility where they can gain the flight hours and maintenance proficiency required by mission organizations. As always, a light dinner will be available at 6:15, general announcements will start at 7:00, and the main program will follow. We meet it the “Lacy” Griffin building at AVL. Parking for this even is no longer available on the gravel lot that is diagonal to the Lacey building. Instead, park in front of the Lacey building, in the maintenance area parking adjacent to the Lacey building, or in the observation area spots down Wright Brothers Way close to Signature.

Our next “Fly-to” lunch will be at noon on Saturday May 21st at the new Runway Cafe very near Shelby Airport (EHO). After landing, walk past the hangers, then through the adjacent cemetery, then through the gate (lock code: “SOCK”). You’ll see the cafe just beyond the gate.

If you are a pilot going to the “fly-to” lunch, and you have empty seats available in your aircraft, please text Bill Whitehead at 828-676-5868 with your name, the number of seats you have available, and your phone number. This information will be posted on this website prior to the fly-to lunch; WNCPA members needing transportation can then contact you directly to make travel arrangements. These lunches are fun! We had 7 aircraft and 11 people in the last one; let’s try to set a record in the next one!

The board has a tentative schedule for upcoming presentations. Donald Short will speak in June; July will be our annual picnic (featuring catered barbecue); August will feature Tim Fox and Bill Whitehead on helicopters; in September the topic will be gliders (sailplanes).

We are also planning an overnight trip to a major air museum in September. (Instead of our fly-to lunch, we’ll have a Fly-To, RON, Fly-Back experience!). Come to our June 17th meeting for details; we want to get a straw vote from the membership before making a final decision on which museum to visit on the excursion.
