All Things Gyro! (No, not the Greek lamb wrap…)

On Tuesday, September 19th, we will hear from Brett Sharenow at our regular meeting. Brett recently accepted delivery of his new gyroplane from Italy, one that he helped to construct there at the factory. “Gyroplane” is the proper term for aircraft commonly known as “gyrocopters,” aircraft with a freewheeling, unpowered rotor overhead, and thrust provided by a conventional propeller mounted horizontally. It is a design that looks like it shouldn’t work…but it does!

The meeting begins at 6:15 with pizza as our meal, followed by the presentation in the Lacy Griffin aviation center. If no parking space is available in front of the building, use the spaces in the adjacent maintenance yard (gate 24), in the viewing area down the road, or in the small lot catty-cornered to the Lacy Griffin center.

Our monthly Fly-In Lunch on Saturday, September 23 will take place at Charleston International Airport (CHS, 196 NM southeast of AVL).

Coming events: Our October meeting will by by Dr. Robert Busey on the “Pilots & Paws” program. AVL’s annual 5K race on the airport grounds will occur on October 7th. Our annual Christmas dinner at Bay Breeze will occur on December 12th.
