About the WNCPA Educational Foundation

The Educational Foundation provides supplementary funding, support, and mentoring for pilots in training who demonstrate the potential and desire to make aviation a long-lasting part of their lives.

History. In 2011 and 2012, the Western North Carolina Pilots Association Board of Directors accomplished a long-standing goal in awarding three $1,500 education grants to new aspiring private pilots. Funds for these grants were raised by donations, raffles, and contributions from the Association's General Fund. Since the Association is incorporated as a 501(c)7 organization with tax-exempt (but not charitable) status, donations for its purposes, however worthy, are not tax-deductible. Due to the interest generated by the education grant program, the Board decided to create a separate, charitable arm of the Association and seek 501(c)3 status so that donations would be eligible for tax-deductibility. In May 2012, the Western North Carolina Pilots Association Education Foundation, Inc. was incorporated as a tax-exempt entity in the State of North Carolina.
