The WNCPA supports General Aviation by promoting aviation safety, providing aviation education, and furthering interest in flying. We hold monthly meetings, plan flying events, host social activities, and fund an aviation education scholarship program.
Meetings. We meet the third Tuesday of each month at the Lacy Griffin Aviation Center adjacent to Asheville Regional Airport (AVL). The street address is: 21 Aviation Way, Fletcher, NC 28732. Our meetings start with a light dinner at 6:15 pm. A general meeting begins at 7:00 pm followed by a feature program on various aviation topics. For upcoming feature programs, see the WNCPA Program Schedule below.
Fly-outs. We also plan monthly luncheon fly-outs, typically the third Saturday of each month. All flights are weather-permitting, of course. See the WNCPA Fly-out Schedule below for upcoming fly-outs. For more about our fly-outs, please email us.
Educational Foundation. The Western North Carolina Pilots Association Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, charitable organization that provides scholarship grants to pilots in training. For more about the Foundation, how to contribute, or how to apply for a grant, click (here).
All flying enthusiasts are welcomed! You do not have to live in North Carolina, own a plane, or be a pilot. For more information about us, our activities, meeting location, and membership or renewal, please email us!

WNCPA FLY-OUT SCHEDULE
Weather permitting, our guided tour of the Cirrus delivery center in Knoxville, TN has been rescheduled for FRIDAY November 9 (not the usual Saturday). Plan to arrive between 11:30 and noon. Lunch will be at noon, followed by a tour from about 1:00 to 3:00. They will probably have one of the new Cirrus jets on display, as well as their state-of-the-air simulators and other training facilities.
Participation in this experience is limited to 6 aircraft and 10 – 12 people. Contact Dave Bolser and/or Tim Anderson with your intentions to participate.
The airport is McGhee Tyson (TYS), a controlled field 75 NM west northwest of AVL. Mare sure you land on runway 5R or 23L: the other parallel runway is closed through December. Contact ground control there for taxi instructions to the Cirrus delivery center, “C” ramp. Once clear of taxiways, please contact Cirrus Line Service directly on 123.3 for further instructions. And…don’t run into any mountains! There are plenty of them between AVL and TYS.
Our annual Christmas dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6 at the Broadmoor Golf Club. Look for an invitation in the mail if you don’t want to register online using the tool above.
Chuck Buckland of Signature asked that we post this announcement: “I wanted to mention that our parking lot and driveway is scheduled to be re-surfaced starting November 5th and continue through November 23rd. During this time period, our driveway, parking lot and gate VG16 may be inaccessible. If you have a gate pass that works on any of the other gates, please use it during this time period. If you need to use any parking lots, lots 2 and 3 will be available. If you have any questions, please let me know. Please pass this information on to the Pilots Group as well as anybody else that uses our facility”
