WNCPA General Information

Purpose. The WNCPA supports General Aviation by promoting aviation safety, providing aviation education, and furthering interest in flying. We hold monthly meetings, plan flying events, host social activities, and fund an aviation educational foundation. The Association is non-profit and our activities are supported by annual dues and various fundraising activities. Through our activities and events, we aim to build camaraderie and encourage information-sharing among aviation enthusiasts with a wide range of experience. You do not need to be a North Carolina resident and you do not have to own a plane or be a pilot to join us!

Meetings. We meet the third Tuesday of each month at the Asheville Regional Airport (AVL). Our meetings start with a light dinner at 6:15 pm. A general meeting begins at 7:00 pm followed by a feature presentation on various aviation topics of interest. Programs include guest speakers, videos, and presentations by flight instructors and other individuals with specific aviation expertise. Our meetings are held at the O.D. "Lacy" Griffin building at the Asheville Regional Airport (AVL). Entry is via Aviation Drive (the General Aviation entrance just north of the terminal) off of Route 280. Click (here) for the meeting address and directions.

Fly-outs. The WNCPA plans monthly luncheon fly-outs, usually the third Saturday of each month, to airports located generally within an hour's flight. All flights are weather permitting, of course. More extended flying trips to aviation museums and other points of interest are arranged periodically by Association members. Recent destinations have included the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Virginia, and the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola. Educational Foundation. The Western North Carolina Pilots Association Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, charitable organization that provides scholarship grants to pilots in training. The Foundation provides supplementary funding, support, and mentoring for student pilots who demonstrate the potential and desire to make aviation a long-lasting part of their lives. For more about the Foundation, how to contribute, or how to apply for a grant, click (here).

Christmas Dinner. The Christmas Dinner is held during the first week of December. The dinner is our premier social event of the year and represents our December meeting. Cost for the dinner usually runs between $25 and $50 per person depending on the facility and entertainment. Guests are welcome! For more information, click (here).

Association Dues. Dues are paid annually during the month of January and are presently $25.00 per person. There are no charges for guests, but spouses who attend regularly are asked to join.
